Nyasa Big Bullets winger Fischer Jahman Kondowe says he will keep on playing football despite the need for campaigning as he gears on to contest as a Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South.

The veteran faces strong competition from Noel Lipipa, incumbent legislator Allan Ngumuya, former National Youth Football Association chairman Mavuto Missi and Malawi Congress Party Campaign Director Moses Kunkuyu and musician Fredo Penjani Kalua.

He told a local leading Newspaper: “It is all about dividing my time between football and politics. Football is my career and I am still very fit to continue playing. When I am not on the field of play, I will be out campaigning.”

He also went on to defend and sympathise with fellow Rasta Chikomeni David Chirwa for falling short of requirements to present his presidential nomination paper to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) last week.

“Some of us are excited that for the first time in the history of the country, a rastaman has raised his hand to vie for the country’s presidency. But it is unfortunate that he was turned back because he did pay the required sum of money. This is a factor that is motivating some of us to contest for public office and change some of these laws,” he said.

Other sports personalities who are contesting as MPs are Malawi National Council of Sports board member Elliot Mankhamba Phiri, former Malawi national football team striker Peterkins Kayira, former Wanderers chairperson Chipiliro Mpinganjira, former Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama and Malawi Boxing Association President Justice Katika.
